| Opmerkingen |
Banco de Venezuela was a private commercial bank, not a central bank — Venezuela had no central bank until 1940. These large-denomination notes from the 1890s circulated alongside issues from several competing private institutions, all operating under government concession. The 1.000 Bolívares was a significant sum in that economy, making this note far more a commercial instrument than an everyday transaction piece.
American Bank Note Company handled the full production in New York. The watermark is the only security layer recorded for this issue — modest protection for the denomination, though consistent with ABNC's practice for South American contracts of the period.
