| Opis awersu | The obverse is printed in black on a purple-toned underprint composed of repeating numeral guilloché patterns. The denomination numeral "1000000" appears in large bold type within a purple rectangular panel at the upper centre, below which the legend "EINE MILLION MARK" is set in spaced capitals. The lower portion carries the place and date of issue, the issuing authority line "DIE LANDESREGIERUNG", two manuscript signatures, and at lower left, the Thuringian state coat of arms — a shield charged with six-pointed stars arranged in a cluster. A column of anti-counterfeiting text occupies the right margin. |

The Thüringische Staatsbank was one of dozens of German regional and municipal institutions forced into emergency currency production during the hyperinflation of 1923, when the Reichsbank's output could not keep pace with the velocity of monetary collapse. By the time million-mark notes were being issued, the purchasing power of the denomination was already eroding within days of printing — in some weeks, within hours.
The purple color variant is a documented second printing, distinguishable from the earlier brown-toned issue. Weimar, as the state capital of Thuringia, hosted the bank's operations directly.
