| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in shades of blue on white paper, with a light guilloche underprint across the central field. Ornate Art Nouveau lateral borders carry diamond-shaped lozenges bearing the denomination figure '1.000.000' in vertical orientation, flanked by foliate scroll cartouches at each corner. The text is set in Gothic Fraktur script, with the issuer's name and branch at the top, the promise-to-pay clause in the centre, and the denomination 'Eine Million Mark' in a bold framed panel; a red diagonal overprint reading 'Nur zur Verrechnung' (for clearing purposes only) crosses the central area, and the place-and-date line 'Leipzig, d. 16. Aug. 1923' appears at lower left above two manuscript signatures, with the co-signatory block of Commerz- und Privat-Bank Aktiengesellschaft, Filiale Leipzig at lower right. |
