| Obverse description | Uniface Notgeld voucher printed entirely in blue on pale cream paper, enclosed within a decorative guilloche border with the denomination value '1000000' repeated vertically along both lateral margins. The upper portion carries the serial prefix and number within an ornamental cartouche, below which the issuer's title 'Handelskammer Aachen' appears in bold Gothic script. The central field bears the denomination 'Eine Million Mark' in large display lettering beneath the legend 'Gutschein über', followed by a two-line redemption clause in smaller Gothic type. To the lower left, a circular embossed-style stamp of the Handelskammer zu Aachen bearing an eagle vignette is present, with the date 'Aachen, den 18. Aachen's Chamber of Commerce turned to local printer Aug. Heinrigs when the Reichsbank could no longer supply currency fast enough to keep pace with hyperinflation in 1923. Notes like this one — Notgeld issued by commercial and municipal bodies rather than state banks — briefly formed the operational backbone of everyday transactions as the official currency disintegrated. The million-mark denomination, which would have seemed grotesque eighteen months earlier, was unremarkable by mid-1923.
The blue distinguishes this from parallel issues in other colors produced by the same chamber during the same period, a simple differentiation method when successive emergency printings were churned out within weeks of each other.
