备注

Brombach bei Lörrach was a small industrial community in Baden, and like hundreds of German municipalities in the summer of 1923, it issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — when the Reichsbank simply could not produce denominations fast enough to keep pace with hyperinflation. By the time million-mark notes were necessary for ordinary transactions, the central printing infrastructure was overwhelmed, and local authorities were legally permitted to issue their own paper to cover wages and daily commerce.

Municipal million-mark issues from small Baden towns survive in lower quantities than those from larger industrial centers, partly because local print runs were modest and few were saved once the Rentenmark stabilization rendered them worthless in November 1923.
