Bergbau-Aktien-Gesellschaft Lothringen was a coal mining company operating in Gerthe, a district of Bochum in the Ruhr. This note is notgeld — emergency currency issued by a private industrial firm during the hyperinflation of 1923, when the Reichsbank simply could not produce denominations fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. By mid-1923, a million marks was already a trivial sum; many of these corporate issues were obsolete within weeks of printing.
