正面描述 Orange and dark brown note with a scalloped outer border. A large central oval guilloche vignette carries the denomination numerals '1,000,000' and the text 'EINE MILLION MARK' in bold Gothic lettering; the oval cartouche is flanked by two winged sphinx-like female figures. The header reads 'BAYERISCHE BANKNOTE' with 'ZAHLBAR MIT MARK' below, and the date 'MÜNCHEN DEN 15. AUGUST 1923' appears beneath the central vignette. Serial numbers in red are printed at upper left and upper right, with the issuer's name 'Bayerische Notenbank' in Gothic script and multiple manuscript signatures of the Staatskommissär, Direktion, and Aufsichtsrat at the lower portion.

备注

The Bayerische Notenbank was one of four German state banks still legally empowered to issue their own notes under the Reichsbank Law of 1875, a privilege that became particularly consequential during the hyperinflation of 1923. This one-million Mark denomination arrived mid-year, already obsolete in purchasing power terms within weeks of issue — by late 1923, such notes were being bundled in quantities to pay for a single loaf of bread.

Printed in Munich by the bank's own facilities rather than outsourced to one of the major private press houses, the note reflects Bavaria's dogged insistence on monetary autonomy even as the broader German currency system disintegrated around it.
