| Opmerkingen |
The Badische Bank was one of several German regional private banks licensed to issue emergency currency during the hyperinflation crisis of 1923, when the Reichsbank's own presses could not keep pace with the collapsing purchasing power of the Mark. By the time million-Mark denominations became necessary, the notes were depreciating faster than they could be distributed — a 1,000,000 Mark note issued in August 1923 might cover a loaf of bread; by November it would not.
The print run of just over twelve million notes is large in absolute terms but modest relative to some Reichsbank issues of the same period, reflecting the Badische Bank's regional rather than national circulation footprint, centered on Baden.
