Opmerkingen

Zirndorf is a small Bavarian town best known, if at all, for its toy industry — not for monetary policy. But in the summer and autumn of 1923, as the Reichsmark collapsed under hyperinflation, hundreds of German municipalities were legally permitted to issue their own emergency currency, Notgeld, to meet immediate payroll and commercial needs. The Reichsbank simply could not print fast enough. Local printers, Bollmann among them, were pressed into service producing denominations that would have been unthinkable eighteen months earlier.

A million marks. Spent on bread, probably, within days of issue.
