Danzig's municipal senate was forced into a parallel currency operation during 1923 as the hyperinflation consuming Weimar Germany spilled across the border into the Free City. Though Danzig maintained its own currency, the Danziger Mark was pegged closely enough to the German Mark that the collapse dragged it down in tandem — hence the million-denomination notes of this series.
Pick 24 is one of the more straightforward emergency emissions from the Danzig sequence, but note the print date: 30 April 1923, not 1945 — the "1945" in catalog data for this series is a persistent transcription error.
