Beschrijving keerzijde The central vignette presents a fine letterpress illustration of a medieval round tower and a step-gabled building from the Ochsenfurt town fortifications, signed 'Georg Goldstein' at lower right. Flanking the central scene are two vertical dark panels, each bearing the denomination '1000 000' in white numerals above ornamental cartouches: the left cartouche contains a heraldic shield with a chevron device, and the right cartouche displays the Ochsenfurt town arms with an ox passant beneath a cross. A bold black banner across the bottom carries the denomination in large Gothic script, while a ribbon scroll across the top bears the issuer's name.

Opmerkingen

Ochsenfurt is a small Franconian town on the Main river, best known for its sugar refinery. In 1923, as Reichsbank notes became worthless faster than they could be printed, hundreds of German municipal and district authorities issued their own emergency currency — Notgeld — simply to keep local wages and commerce moving. This note is one of those instruments, authorized by the Bezirksgemeinde (district council) rather than any banking institution.

Georg Goldstein's involvement is uncommon enough to note — most Notgeld at this denomination tier was produced with minimal design investment, since the inflationary spiral made elaborate artwork an absurdity. Reinhold Pfeiffer in Würzburg handled a significant volume of Franconian emergency currency during this period.
