Yugoslavia's hyperinflation of 1993 was among the worst in recorded history — peak monthly inflation exceeded two million percent by December of that year, rendering notes obsolete within days of issue. The million-dinar denomination, unthinkable a few years prior, was itself overtaken almost immediately by billion- and trillion-dinar notes before the series collapsed entirely in January 1994.
ZIN printed the entire inflationary cascade domestically, under considerable logistical strain. Andrić handled both design and obverse engraving on this note — an unusual consolidation of roles, likely a function of the speed at which new denominations had to be produced.
