Opmerkingen

Hungary's 1946 hyperinflation remains the most severe in recorded monetary history, and the adópengő denominations mark its terminal phase. The adópengő was not a conventional currency unit — it was a tax-indexed parallel valuation introduced in January 1946 specifically to allow the state to collect revenues in something approximating real value while the regular pengő collapsed beneath it. By July 1946, the ratio of adópengő to pengő had reached 2,000,000,000,000,000,000 to one.

Endre Horváth, the designer, was one of Hungary's more accomplished graphic artists of the period. The note was printed domestically by the Hungarian State Printing House (Magyar Állami Nyomda) in Budapest — unusual given that many earlier Hungarian issues had relied on foreign printers.
