One of the stranger issuers in the Württemberg hyperinflation corpus: a state peat administration. Schussenried, in upper Swabia, sat at the edge of the Federsee moor, and the extraction works there were substantial enough that the state entity managing them qualified — under the emergency currency decrees of 1923 — to issue Notgeld against their own operational payroll needs. The printer, Vereinigte Buchdruckereien, was a regional cooperative press serving the Buchau-Schussenried-Aulendorf triangle, not a specialist security printer.
The denomination reflects where Germany stood in late 1923, when a billion marks was roughly bus fare.
