| Beschrijving voorzijde | Plain cream paper note within a typeset rectangular border of chain-link ornamental rule, with the denomination 'Eine Milliarde Mark' printed in bold blackletter Gothic script at centre. A faint green underprint vignette of the Duderstadt civic coat of arms occupies the centre field, over which the text legends are letterpress-printed in black. The denomination '1 Milliarde Mark' is additionally printed vertically in blackletter along the left margin. |

| Opmerkingen |
Duderstadt was a small Lower Saxon town with no business issuing paper money at this scale, yet by late 1923 the municipal authority had no practical choice. The Reichsmark's collapse had made standard Reichsbank notes functionally worthless before they could even reach the provinces, and hundreds of German municipalities — large and small — were printing their own Notgeld to keep local commerce moving. A billion marks for everyday transactions was not satire; it was arithmetic.
The official stamp serves as the sole security feature, which tells you everything about the speed and desperation of production. Cancellation and redemption records for municipal Notgeld at this denomination are almost universally lost.
