The upper portion carries "Serie A," the authorization line "Genehmigt vom Reichsfinanzministerium," and a handwritten serial number; star ornaments appear at the upper corners. The lower section bears the issuing locality "Brunndöbra, den 27. Brunndöbra is a village in the Vogtland district of Saxony — a coal and textile community with no particular financial significance before hyperinflation forced every local authority, however small, to print its own emergency money. This one-billion-mark note was issued by the municipal cashier's office in 1923, during the final, most absurd phase of the Weimar inflation, when the Reichsbank's own denominations were perpetually behind the collapsing purchasing power of the currency.
The 637b designation indicates a variety within the Brunndöbra series — likely a paper stock or overprint difference from the base type. Local Notgeld at this denomination level was rarely used beyond a few days before becoming worthless again.
