EuroSouvenir notes are a legal curiosity — they carry a face value of zero, which exempts them from the ECB's monopoly on euro-denominated currency while still allowing them to circulate freely as commemorative items. Oberthur Fiduciaire produces them to genuine banknote specifications, using the same security paper and printing techniques applied to circulating issues, which is what distinguishes them from tourist novelty items.
Zamora, a Castilian city whose medieval walls and Romanesque cathedral count have made it a minor heritage draw, became a recurring subject in the Spanish regional souvenir note market after the series gained traction post-2015.
