Eurosouvenirs 0 Euro notes are legal collector items issued under license from the European Central Bank, printed to euro-specification security standards by authorized security printers — in this case Oberthur Fiduciaire in Rennes, who also produce genuine euro banknotes. The zero-denomination format was introduced in 2015 and has since become a substantial secondary market in its own right.
Gagarin's inclusion in a French-licensed souvenir series reflects the 60th anniversary of the Vostok 1 flight on 12 April 1961 — the note was issued to coincide with that commemoration. He remains one of very few Soviet figures to have achieved genuinely universal cultural recognition in the West.
