Memo Euro Scope launched its souvenir zero-euro program as a licensing arrangement with the European Central Bank, producing notes that carry genuine euro security features — including Enschedé's intaglio printing — while carrying no legal tender status whatsoever. The irony is deliberate: a note that looks more convincingly like circulating currency than many actual issues, yet redeems for nothing.
Enschedé has printed official euro banknotes for the Netherlands since the series launched in 2002, which is precisely why their involvement lends these souvenirs an authenticity that cheaper tourist novelties lack. The paper and print quality are not approximations.
