The Tatranská ozubnicová železnica — the High Tatras rack railway — opened in 1908 and has used a cog-and-rack system to manage the steep gradients between Poprad-Tatry and Štrbské Pleso ever since. ZSSK issued this commemorative zero-euro souvenir note in 2021 to mark the line's anniversary, part of the broader European collector series produced through Oberthur Fiduciaire's souvenir banknote program, which has become a reliable revenue stream for transport operators and tourist attractions across the continent.
Designer Pavel Fuks worked on the artwork; Oberthur handled the security printing in France, as with the vast majority of notes in this series.
