The zero-euro souvenir note program, administered by the UEEG and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, launched in 2015 and has since produced over a thousand regional and institutional subjects across Europe. Oberthur prints these on genuine banknote paper with the full security feature suite — watermark, security thread, UV-reactive ink — making them technically identical in construction to circulating currency, which is precisely what drives collector demand.

This issue commemorates the Gallo-Roman site at Alise-Sainte-Reine in Burgundy, where Caesar's legions besieged Vercingetorix in 52 BC — the defeat that effectively ended organized Gallic resistance. The Muséoparc Alésia opened in 2012 on disputed but probable ground.
