The Bayeux Tapestry souvenir zero-euro note belongs to the EuroSouvenir program launched in 2015, which licenses the euro format for collector pieces that are legal in design but carry no monetary value — a loophole exploited with considerable commercial success at European tourist sites. Oberthur Fiduciaire prints these to genuine security-note standards, including UV-reactive ink and microprinting, which makes them technically more sophisticated than many circulating notes from smaller sovereign issuers.
The tapestry itself dates to the 1070s and remains housed in Bayeux, Normandy — its 2022 tie-in coincided with renewed discussion over France's long-standing bid to have it inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World register.
