Ahtisaari remains the only Finnish head of state to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in 2008 for his decades of conflict mediation work in Namibia, Kosovo, and Aceh. The souvenir zero-euro format, introduced commercially around 2015 and printed under Eurosystem-compliant security specifications by Oberthur Fiduciaire, has become a legitimate collector niche — legally unspendable by design, with no central bank authorization, but produced on genuine banknote paper with UV and microprint features intact.
Oberthur's Chantepie facility handles the bulk of this series for the European souvenir market.
