| Opmerkingen |
Stift Melk has issued souvenir euros before — this 2025 release is among the latest in the EuroSouvenir program, a private commercial initiative that began around 2015 and has since produced hundreds of tourist-market notes for European attractions. Oberthur Fiduciaire handles the printing, as they do for a substantial portion of the series, using genuine banknote paper and security features that make these notes feel — deliberately — like legal tender they are not.
The Benedictine abbey at Melk has been a functioning monastery since 1089. The current Baroque structure dates from the early eighteenth century, rebuilt under Abbot Berthold Dietmayr between 1702 and 1736.
