EuroSouvenir notes are legal tender novelties issued under a scheme approved by the European Central Bank, allowing private licensees to produce zero-denomination collector pieces that share the physical security profile of genuine euro banknotes. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the few printers globally certified to produce ECB-specification currency, handles the bulk of the series — the security thread, microprinting, and UV-reactive features are all present and genuine, which is precisely why the ECB sign-off was required in the first place.
Benfica's entry into the series reflects the club's commercial weight in Portuguese football, though the licensing arrangements behind individual EuroSouvenir subjects are negotiated independently of any national authority.
