EuroSouvenir notes occupy a strange niche — legal tender in form but never intended for circulation, sold at face value plus a markup directly to tourists. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the major European security printers, produces the entire series to genuine banknote specification: proper security paper, intaglio printing, and UV features. The zero denomination was a deliberate regulatory choice, sidestepping any obligation for central bank acceptance while still allowing the word "Euro" on the face.

Laxenburg's castle park, southwest of Vienna, was a Habsburg summer retreat — the Emperor Franz Joseph I was born there in 1830.
