Schloss Broich, perched above the Ruhr river in Mülheim, is one of the oldest preserved fortifications in the Rhineland — its origins traced to Carolingian defensive works of the ninth century. The souvenir zero-euro program, administered by EuroSouvenir and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire under strict ECB security specifications, began gaining serious collector traction around 2015 and has since produced hundreds of regional issues across Germany and beyond. Oberthur applies the same intaglio and UV-reactive security features used on genuine euro banknotes, which is precisely what drives secondary market demand for the better regional subjects.
