0 Euro Rota Estrada Nacional 2

The Estrada Nacional 2 — Portugal's Route N2 — runs roughly 740 kilometers from Chaves in the north to Faro in the south, making it the longest national road in the country. This souvenir zero-euro note was issued to mark renewed tourism interest in the route, which had been promoted as a Portuguese answer to Route 66 in the years preceding this issue.

Oberthur Fiduciaire printed the piece using genuine banknote paper and security features standard to their euro-format souvenir program — the same technical infrastructure used for circulating currency, which is the whole point of the collector proposition. Designer Manuel Teixeira handled the artwork.
