Rocamadour's cliff-face sanctuary has drawn pilgrims since the 12th century, and the souvenir euro program has turned that foot traffic into a minor collector market. These notes carry legal face value under French law — zero euros, technically negotiable but practically worthless as currency — printed to full De La Rue-grade security specifications by Oberthur in Rennes, including genuine intaglio printing and UV-reactive features identical to circulating issues.
The program launched in 2015. By 2018, over 200 designs had been issued across French tourist sites, which has complicated the secondary market considerably.
