Pontmain, a village in Mayenne, became a pilgrimage site after an 1871 apparition reported by local children during the Franco-Prussian War — Prussian forces halted their advance toward the town shortly after, a coincidence that drove the Vatican's subsequent approval of the apparition in 1872. This note is the fourth in a souvenir series documenting that event, issued under the EuroSouvenir program, which licenses zero-denomination legal-curiosity notes to tourist and religious sites across Europe.
Oberthur Fiduciaire printed it — a firm with genuine banknote credentials, which gives these souvenir pieces better security feature integration than most commemorative paper.
