The "0 Euro souvenir" format was introduced in 2015 as a licensed novelty scheme — the notes are legal in design terms, conforming to Euro Souvenir Association standards, but carry no monetary value and are exempt from counterfeiting law precisely because of the zero denomination. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the main commercial security printers operating in France, handles much of the production run for the series.
The Pont d'Avignon — formally the Pont Saint-Bénézet — survives today as a partial ruin, only four of its original twenty-two arches still standing after repeated flood damage in the seventeenth century.
