Pekka Halonen (1865–1931) was a Finnish painter closely associated with the National Romantic movement, whose work drew heavily on Karelian landscapes and peasant life during a period of intensifying Russian pressure on Finnish autonomy. A fitting subject for a Finnish-market issue.
