The zero-euro souvenir note program, administered by the ESBA/UECB, licenses individual tourist sites to issue these Oberthur-printed pieces as collectibles with no redemption value. The Parc du Marquenterre, a protected wetland reserve in the Somme estuary on the Picardy coast, is a serious ornithological site — one of the most important migratory bird staging grounds in northwestern Europe — which lends this particular issue more ecological weight than the typical château or cathedral entry in the series.
