The zero-euro souvenir note program, run commercially through licensed printers rather than any central bank, has produced hundreds of regional commemorative pieces across Europe since roughly 2015. This example marks the liberation of Plzeň by U.S. forces under General Patton's Third Army in May 1945 — one of the few significant Western Allied ground operations on Czechoslovak soil, and a point of local pride that survived even the communist-era preference for crediting Soviet forces exclusively with the country's liberation.
