The 0 Euro souvenir note program, administered under license by EuroSouvenir and printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire, occupies a peculiar niche — legal in design compliance with ECB specifications but carrying no monetary value and no obligation on any central bank. Oravský hrad, the medieval castle perched above the Orava River in northern Slovakia, is among the more geographically specific subjects in the series, which spans hundreds of European tourist sites and has become a genuine secondary collecting market since its commercial launch around 2015.
Oberthur's involvement lends the notes genuine security printing credentials — proper intaglio, UV-reactive elements, and a serial number unique to each copy.
