Operation Anthropoid — the May 1942 assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in Prague by SOE-trained Czechoslovak paratroopers Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš — remains one of the most consequential Allied special operations of the war. Heydrich was the highest-ranking Nazi official killed in action during the entire conflict. The Nazi reprisals were savage: the villages of Lidice and Ležáky were obliterated, and the paratroopers themselves died in the crypt of the Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius after a prolonged siege.
Oberthur Fiduciaire printed this 2022 commemorative on genuine banknote paper to the standard EEAM specification, with Adrian Ferda credited for the design.
