Opmerkingen

The souvenir zero euro note was introduced in France in 2015 as a collector-driven scheme, with the Océarium du Croisic among the earliest participating venues. Oberthur Fiduciaire produced the series using genuine banknote printing techniques — intaglio, security thread, and UV-reactive elements — giving these pieces the physical integrity of legal tender despite having no monetary function whatsoever. The European Central Bank explicitly authorised the format on condition that the face value be zero, preventing any conflict with currency law.

The Croisic aquarium, built into the Atlantic coast of the Loire-Atlantique, was one of the first tourist attractions to adopt the scheme, which helps date this example to the programme's inaugural wave.
