Euro Souvenir notes occupy a peculiar commercial niche — legal tender in design language, zero in face value, sold outright as collectibles. Oberthur Fiduciaire in Rennes produced this one, the same firm responsible for a substantial share of French and Francophone African banknote production over the decades. The security printing infrastructure is genuine even if the monetary status is not.
The 2016 date aligns with the stadium's €267 million renovation, completed for UEFA Euro 2016, which transformed the ground's capacity and gave it its current enclosed bowl form. That renovation was the obvious commercial trigger for the note's release.
