Nausicaá de Boulogne-sur-Mer is the largest aquarium in Europe by water volume, which makes it a logical candidate for the EuroSouvenir programme — a scheme launched around 2015 allowing cultural and tourist sites to issue legal-tender zero-denomination notes as collectibles. Legal tender in the technical sense only: no transaction was ever intended, and none is possible at face value. Oberthur Fiduciaire printed the series under license from the European Central Bank, which controls the design standards these notes must meet to carry the euro livery.
