The Place Stanislas souvenir zero was issued under the EuroSouvenir program, a commercial scheme launched around 2015 that licenses genuine banknote security paper and production from certified printers to create legally valid zero-denomination collector pieces. Oberthur's involvement gives these notes real substrate and holographic strip — the same production infrastructure used for circulating currency — which is precisely why they fall under European Central Bank tolerance rather than anti-counterfeiting law.
The square in Nancy was completed in 1755 on the orders of Stanisław Leszczyński, the dethroned Polish king who ruled the Duchy of Lorraine as a French client. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
