The zero euro souvenir note program, administered by the European Banknote Memory Organization and printed exclusively by Oberthur Fiduciaire, launched in 2015 as a collector vehicle for European cultural and heritage sites. Legally, these notes carry no monetary value — they are issued under an arrangement that permits the euro format and security features without constituting legal tender. Oberthur uses genuine banknote paper and applies intaglio printing, which gives them tactile authenticity that cheaper souvenir formats lack.
Omaha Beach saw roughly 2,000 American casualties on June 6, 1944 — the highest of any D-Day landing sector. The memorial museum opened in 1988 on the bluffs directly above the beach.
