EuroSouvenir notes occupy a peculiar regulatory niche: they are printed to full De La Rue-era European security specification by licensed security printers, yet have no legal tender status anywhere. Oberthur Fiduciaire — one of the few firms authorized to produce genuine euro banknotes for the Eurosystem — produced this piece for the souvenir trade, which makes it technically more difficult to counterfeit than many circulating notes from smaller issuing states.
Chantilly's horse museum, housed within the Grand Stables built for Louis-Henri de Bourbon in the 1720s, was an unusual choice for an inaugural 2015 release — equestrian sites were underrepresented in the early EuroSouvenir catalog, which skewed heavily toward civic landmarks.
