EuroSouvenir notes occupy a peculiar niche — legal in design but not in tender, produced under license from the European Central Bank, which permits the souvenir format provided the notes cannot be mistaken for genuine currency. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the handful of security printers authorized to produce them, has handled the bulk of the series since its commercial rollout.
The Monastery of Sant Llorenç, located in the Berguedà comarca of Catalonia, was founded in the tenth century and largely destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. Its inclusion in the souvenir series reflects the broader Catalan regional tourism push of the late 2010s rather than any particular monetary or historical occasion.
