EuroSouvenir notes occupy a strange niche — legal collector's items with no monetary value, issued to commemorate figures who would never appear on circulating currency. Gorbachev died in August 2022, a year after this note's release, which gives the 2021 date an unintended finality. Oberthur Fiduciaire produced genuine euro banknotes for the Banque de France and several other central banks, so the security infrastructure here — watermarking included — is authentic production-line work, not decorative imitation.
