Souvenir zeros issued under the EEEA program carry no legal tender status anywhere in the EU, but Oberthur Fiduciaire prints them to full security specification — the same firm responsible for a substantial share of genuine euro banknote production for the Eurosystem. The practical result is a collectible that is technically more difficult to counterfeit than many circulating notes from smaller issuing authorities worldwide.
Michalovce is a Slovak city in the Zemplín region near the Ukrainian border, one of the less-touristed stops in the souvenir note program — which keeps print runs for this location modest relative to the western European issues.
