The 0 Euro souvenir program was launched in 2015 by EuroSouvenir, a Paris-based private company, producing legal-tender-format notes with a face value of zero — technically spendable, practically worthless, and deliberately collectible. Oberthur Fiduciaire produces them to genuine banknote specification, including holographic strip, which is either charming or absurd depending on your position on the hobby.
Mettlach, on the Saar river's famous oxbow bend, is tourist territory. The site draws heavily on its association with Villeroy & Boch, whose ceramics factory has occupied the former Benedictine abbey there since 1809.
