Zero euro souvenir notes have been sold across European tourist sites since around 2015, with Euroscope holding the dominant position as issuer and Royal Joh. Enschedé — the Haarlem security printer with roots back to 1703 — handling production. Enschedé's involvement lends these pieces genuine security printing credentials: intaglio print, embedded strip, and UV-reactive features are standard to the run, making them harder to counterfeit than some low-denomination circulating notes from smaller economies.
Zoo Amnéville, in the Moselle department of northeastern France, is one of the country's higher-attendance zoological parks. Its appearance in this series is unremarkable except as a data point in just how extensively the zero euro format has been licensed — hundreds of French tourist attractions have issued variants, and Enschedé has printed the lot.
