EuroSouvenir notes are legal collector items produced under a scheme authorized by the European Central Bank, allowing licensed printers to issue zero-denomination novelty notes on genuine banknote stock. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the few printers approved for the program, produces them on the same security substrate used for circulating euro currency — which is precisely the point of the exercise.
Marek Hamšík retired from international football in 2023 after a record 136 caps for Slovakia. The timing of this issue tracks that retirement closely.
