The 875th anniversary note for Lübeck sits within the EuroSouvenir program — a novelty series produced to legal-tender dimensions and security standards but explicitly denominated at zero, making them collectible items with no redemption obligation. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the few security printers capable of meeting ECB substrate specifications, produces the entire series run out of France, which is why the paper and thread quality consistently matches circulating Euro issues despite the souvenirs having no monetary function whatsoever.
Lübeck's 875th anniversary falls to 2018 from the city's traditional founding date of 1143.
