| Opmerkingen |
Oberthur's 0-euro souvenir series has been running since 2015, produced under licence from the Banque de France and marketed through tourist sites across the country. These notes are legal tender in the technical sense — face value guaranteed by the ECB framework that permits them — but no vendor is obligated to accept them, and none do. The Carrières de Lumières at Les Baux-de-Provence is a disused limestone quarry turned immersive projection venue, best known for its floor-to-ceiling digital art installations cycling through different artists each season.
The Vermeer-to-Van Gogh programming referenced here ran in 2025. Oberthur prints the series on genuine banknote paper with security features intact, which is precisely what makes these attractive to collectors and commercially useless as currency.
